While we all are guilty of putting our gadgets on the “tried & true” list, there are times when we use our tools more than our brains. I’d even go so far as to say that technology is the most important tool that we have. We are all familiar with the old saying, “You can’t run a business without customers.” Well, let me tell you, that is definitely true when it comes to the internet.
We’ve all done it. You’ve got a page that starts out with a simple introductory video or post on Facebook, and then you start using your Facebook page to sell your wares. We’ve all done it, and we’ve probably even done it on purpose. We want to make some extra money and we want to make it look like we are creating something that is valuable to others.
Sure, but is it really that easy? I mean, what else are you going to do besides sell your stuff? You don’t have to stop and wonder if you are doing enough to bring in customers. You can do it if you put yourself in a situation where you have to. You can do it by starting a Facebook page and giving people an incentive to sign up and buy a product youve already created.
It does have a few limitations though. Facebook, for example, is not an avenue most people are comfortable with. Also, there are many people out there who are too afraid to give their name or even a basic contact info to a company they are not familiar with. I think Facebook is a great tool to have for those people. It also has its downsides, but it can be useful when you are trying to build up your fan base.
The problem with Facebook is that it is a public forum. In other words, it’s a public forum of people who already have a relationship with you, and you are only going to get their email addresses and likes. People want to know what you’ve done to promote your products, and they want a reason to get your emails.
The other problem with Facebook is that the email list is constantly growing. People are sending you links to their new or old products, and the emails are then forwarded to each other. If you dont have a good idea of what you are doing or why you are doing it, this can be a very effective way for people to see that you are not perfect and that you are not being taken seriously.
There are a few sites out there that encourage you to send emails without having to give too many details about your products. This is great because they are free to you. A few examples are Gizmobox and Boxee Mail. Both of these sites will send you a link to a page that has a video tutorial or a video or product review. If you are interested in sending email to people, they are great. If you want to avoid sending emails to people, they are terrible.
What I like about Gizmobox and Boxee Mail is that they don’t try to sell you anything. They are just the same page that will post a video and let you know what you’re getting. It’s really not necessary if you don’t want to pay anything. I don’t see any reason to send emails to people just to test out a product before you send emails to the actual people.
To be fair, I would say that for a lot of people, it is still a free service. For example, I am also a member of Gizmobox. But for the most part, free services are just as bad as the paid versions. If only because if you don’t want to pay to send email, you can just use your own email address.
I mean what is the difference between a free service and a paid version? It is a lot more than just the mail-forward service. It is also a lot more than just a paid version. We have three types of service: 1) free mail-forwarding, 2) paid for mail-forwarding, and 3) something called “self-mailing.” So if you are looking to send a newsletter to people, then you are looking to send a newsletter to everyone you know.
